WEEKLY PADDLES at Elora Gorge: beginning Sunday April 1/2012

Wednesday nights – meet at Ross St parking lot in Elor! a @ 5:45pm to be ready to shuttle @ 6:00pm

Sunday mornings – meet at Ross St parking lot in Elora @ 10:45am to be ready to shuttle @ 11:00am

SHUTTLING

Everyone meets at the put-in to unload boats and gear; we drive all vehicles to the take-out and come back in as few cars as possible, making sure the drivers
who come back leave their dry clothes in a vehicle at the take-out. After the paddle a few drivers need to get a ride back to the top, which is quite easy because we tend to leave the trucks or bigger vehicles (that can take extra boats) at the takeout.

DIRECTIONS to UPPER IRVINE RIVER PADDLING: We meet at the bridge crossing the Irvine River on Irvine St north of Salem.
From the 'Unofficial' takeout on Middle Brook Road, drive east into Elora (the road changes name at County Rd 7 and becomes David St). Stay on this road until it ends at a T-junction at Irvine Street. Turn left and head north for approximately 2 km until you cross a bridge. This is the putin for the Upper.

KAYAKING INSTRUCTION:
GKC does not offer formal instruction, nor do we have club gear available to rent or borrow. If you have the opportunity for formal instruction ! it is the best way to get the basics and increase your confidence leve l quickly starting out. There are a number of places that do offer beginner courses over a weekend where you can 'get your feet wet' and see if kayaking is for you. Whitewater kayaking is not for everyone, but if you are comfortable in water and get proper instruction you will almost certainly fall in love with this sport. Many GKC members only started a few years ago and have quickly become paddling fanatics!

Check out the contact information from Whitewater Ontario's website for commercial companies offering instruction:
